547—Ahmad ibn al-Faraj ibn Mansur informed us: Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Sa'id narrated to us: Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ishkab narrated to us: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us. [A parallel chain:]
548—And Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad informed us: al-Husayn ibn Yahya al-Matutheei informed us: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Muslim ibn Subayh, from Masruq, from Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“When Allah speaks the revelation, the inhabitants of heaven hear a ringing like that of a chain dragged across a smooth rock, and they are struck unconscious. They remain thus until Gabriel comes to them. When Gabriel comes to them, fear is dispelled from their hearts, and they say, ‘O Gabriel, what did your Lord say?’ He replies, ‘He speaks the truth.’ Then they call out, ‘The truth, the truth!’” ⦗369⦘
Ibn Abi Sa'id likewise added the words, “The truth.”
Abu Dawud transmitted it, with a chain tracing it back to the Prophet, from Ahmad ibn Abi Surayj, Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ibrahim, and Ali ibn Abi Muslim, from Abu Mu'awiyah. Al-Muharibi, Jarir, and Ibn Numayr narrated it as a statement of Ibn Mas'ud. Ahmad ibn Hanbal also narrated it from Abu Mu'awiyah as a statement of Ibn Mas'ud.
