Abd al-Malik al-Simsar said: “Ali ibn al-Madini, Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam, and I were gathered together. Ali—or someone else—said, ‘O Abu Ubayd, what do you say about one who claims that the Quran is created?’ Abu Ubayd replied, ‘Such a man should be instructed and told, “This is disbelief.” If he recants, [he is spared]; otherwise, he is to be executed.’”
510 — Al-Mughafali said: Husayn ibn Hayyan said, “I heard Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam say: ‘Whoever claims that the Quran is created is worse than one who says that Allah is the third of three—Allah is Exalted and Most High. Those people affirm [something], whereas these people do not affirm the meaning.’”
