Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Bakr informed us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Uthman related to us, saying: Ya‘qub ibn Sufyan related to us, saying: Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahim related to us, saying: I heard ‘Ali—that is, Ibn al-Madini—say:
“Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal would pray four hundred rak‘ahs each day, and would fast one day and break his fast the next. A man from the Jahmiyyah was mentioned in his presence, so he said, ‘Do not mention that disbeliever.’”
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَكْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَ بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ يُصَلِّي كُلَّ يَوْمٍ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ رَكْعَةٍ , وَيَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا , وَذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ إِنْسَانٌ مِنَ الْجَهْمِيَّةِ فَقَالَ: لَا تَذْكُرْ ذَاكَ الْكَافِرَ
