407 — Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa al-Qurashi reported to us: Umar ibn al-Hasan ibn Malik al-Shaybani narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abi al-Awwam narrated to us; Abd al-Aziz ibn Yahya al-Madani, a client of Banu Hashim, narrated to me: Ali ibn Ma'bad and Shaddad al-Khurasani told me, saying: Leo, the king of the Romans, wrote to Abu Ja‘far—that is, al-Mansur—asking him about certain matters. He asked him whether “There is no god but Allah” was created or a creator. ⦗272⦘ Abu Ja‘far wrote back to him: “You wrote to me asking whether ‘There is no god but Allah’ is a creator or created. It is neither a creator nor created; rather, it is the speech of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
٤٠٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى الْقُرَشِيُّ , ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ , ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَوَّامِ , ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَدَنِيُّ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ , حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ , وَشَدَّادٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ قَالَا: كَتَبَ أَلْيُونُ مَلِكُ الرُّومِ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ يَعْنِي الْمَنْصُورَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ , وَيَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ أَمَخْلُوقَةٌ أَمْ خَالِقَةٌ؟ ⦗٢٧٢⦘ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ: كَتَبْتَ إِلَيَّ تَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ أَخَالِقَةٌ أَمْ مَخْلُوقَةٌ؟ وَلَيْسَتْ خَالِقَةً وَلَا مَخْلُوقَةً , وَلَكِنَّهَا كَلَامُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
