406 — Muhammad ibn Ubayd Allah ibn al-Hajjaj informed us: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Yunus informed us: Muhammad ibn Yunus narrated to us: I heard Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah say:
When the inquisition came to Kufa, ⦗271⦘ Ahmad ibn Yunus said, “Meet Abu Nu‘aym and tell him.” So I met Abu Nu‘aym, and he said to me, “It is nothing but the lash of whips.”
Ibn Abi Shaybah said: I said, “Our hadith from this shaykh is lost.” This was then conveyed to Abu Nu‘aym, and he said, “I have met three hundred shaykhs, all of whom said: ‘The Quran is the Speech of Allah, uncreated.’ This statement was only made by a group among the people of innovation, who used to say that there is no harm in casting the pebbles with glass.”
Then he took hold of his button and tore it off, saying, “My head is less dear to me than my button.”
