396—Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ya'qub informed us; he said: Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Isa informed us; he said: Muhammad ibn Sulayman ibn Faris narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari narrated to us; he said: Al-Hakam ibn Muhammad, Abu Marwan al-Tabari, narrated to us that he heard Ibn Uyaynah say: “For seventy years, I encountered our shaykhs—including Amr ibn Dinar—saying: ‘The Quran is the speech of Allah; it is not created.’”
I say: Ibn Uyaynah indeed met approximately two hundred scholars from among the Followers, and more than three hundred from among the Followers of the Followers, from the people of the two Sacred Sanctuaries, Kufah, Basrah, Syria, Egypt, and Yemen.
