365—Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it. He said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Uthman, Abu Amr al-Dimashqi, mentioned it to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur narrated to us. He said: Abu Rafi al-Madani, Isma'il ibn Rafi, informed us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, told us:
“Allah will command Israfil to blow the blast that causes death, and they will then lie lifeless. The Angel of Death will come and say, ‘My Lord, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth have died, except those whom You have willed.’ He will say, ‘Who remains?’—though He knows best. He will say, ‘My Lord, You remain: the Ever-Living, who never dies. The bearers of Your Throne remain, as do Gabriel and Michael, and I remain.’
He will say, ‘Let Gabriel and Michael die, and let the bearers of My Throne die.’ ⦗248⦘ Then Allah Most High will say—though He knows best—‘Who remains?’ He will say, ‘You remain: the Ever-Living, who never dies; and I remain.’ He will say, ‘O Angel of Death, you are one of My creatures. I created you for what you have seen, so die.’ Then he will not be brought back to life.
When none remains except Allah, the One, the Self-Sufficient, Allah will say, ‘There is no death for the people of Paradise, nor is there death for the people of the Fire.’ Then Allah will roll up the heaven and the earth as a scroll is rolled up for writings, then say, ‘I am the Compeller. To whom belongs sovereignty today?’ Then He will say, ‘To whom belongs sovereignty today?’ three times, then say to Himself, ‘To Allah, the One, the All-Subduing.’”
