333—Ali ibn Umar ibn Ibrahim informed us; he said: Ismail ibn Muhammad informed us; he said: Abbas ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us.
A second chain: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Balkhi, in Rayy, informed us; he said: Hamzah ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: al-Abbas ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us; he said: Ubaydullah ibn Umar narrated to us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan, who said:
A Bedouin came to Umar and said, “O Commander of the Believers, teach me the religion.” He replied, “That you testify that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establish the prayer; give zakah; make pilgrimage to the House; fast Ramadan; adhere to what is done openly; and beware of secrecy and everything of which one would be ashamed. For if you meet Allah, say: ‘Umar commanded me to do this.’”
Then he said, “O servant of Allah, when you meet Allah, say whatever you wish.” Their wording is identical.
