329—Yahya ibn Isma‘il ibn Zakariyya al-Naysaburi informed us; he said: Abu Hamid Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Sharqi informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Hafs ibn Abd Allah narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to us; he said: Ibrahim ibn Tahman narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Musa ibn al-Musayyib Abu Ja‘far, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja‘d, from Kurayb, from Ibn Abbas, who said:
A man from Banu Sa‘d ibn Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, “O son of Abd al-Muttalib.” He replied, “I am at your service.”
The man said, “I am the delegate and messenger of my people. I shall press you hard with my questions and earnestly adjure you, so do not take offense at me.” He said, “Yes.”
He said, “Tell me: who created the heaven?” He replied, “Allah.” He said, “And who created the earth?” He replied, “Allah.” He said, “And who set up these mountains and made in them what He made?” He replied, “Allah.” He said, “Then by Him who created the heaven, created the earth, and set up these mountains: has Allah sent you?” He said, “Yes.” ⦗223⦘
In Sharik’s narration from Anas, he said: “O Muhammad, I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: has Allah sent you to all mankind?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, “Yes.”
In the narration of Ibn Abbas, he said: “Your letters came to us, and your messengers informed us that we are to testify that there is no god but Allah and to abandon al-Lat and al-Uzza. I adjure you by Him: did He command you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In Sharik’s narration from Anas, he said: “O Muhammad, I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: has Allah commanded you that we perform the five prayers each day and night?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, “By Allah, yes.”
In Thabit’s narration from Anas, he said: “Your messenger claimed that we are obliged to perform five prayers in our day and night.” He replied, “He spoke the truth.”
In the narration of Ibn Abbas, he said: “Your messengers informed us that we are to perform five prayers every day and night. I adjure you by Him: did He command you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In Sharik’s narration from Anas, he said: “I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: has Allah commanded you to take charity from our wealthy and distribute it among our poor?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, “By Allah, yes.”
In Thabit’s narration from Anas, he said: “Your messenger claimed that zakah is due upon our wealth.” He replied, “He spoke the truth.” ⦗224⦘ He said, “Then by Him who sent you: has Allah commanded you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In the narration of Ibn Abbas, he said: “Your letters came to us, and your messengers informed us that you are to take from the surplus wealth of our rich and return it to our poor. I adjure you by Him: did He command you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In Sharik’s narration from Anas, he said: “O Muhammad, I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those before you: has Allah commanded you to fast one month every year?” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, replied, “By Allah, yes.”
In Thabit’s narration from Anas, he said: “Your messenger claimed that we must fast the month of Ramadan each year.” He replied, “He spoke the truth.” He said, “Then by Him who sent you: has Allah commanded you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In the narration of Ibn Abbas, he said: “Your letters came to us, and your messengers informed us that we are to fast one month every year. I adjure you by Him: did He command you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.”
In Thabit’s narration from Anas, he said: “And your messenger claimed that we are obliged to make pilgrimage to the House, for whoever is able to find a way to it?” He replied, “He spoke the truth.”
In the narration of Ibn Abbas, he said: “Your letters came to us, and your messengers informed us that we are to make pilgrimage to the House of Allah during the pilgrimage. I adjure you by Him: did He command you to do this?” He replied, “Yes.” ⦗225⦘
In Sharik’s narration from Anas, he said: “I believe in what you have brought, and I am the messenger of those behind me. I am Dimam ibn Tha‘labah, one of Banu Sa‘d ibn Bakr.”
In Thabit’s narration from Anas, he said: “By Him who sent you with the truth, I shall neither add anything to these nor diminish anything from them.” The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “If he is truthful, he will certainly enter Paradise.”
Al-Bukhari transmitted it through the narration of al-Layth ibn Sa‘d, and Muslim through the narration of Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah, from Thabit, from Anas. The hadith of Ibn Abbas has a sound, good, singular chain of transmission.
