327—The venerable shaykh Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Zakariyya al-Turaythithi, the Quran reciter—may Allah grant him felicity through obedience to Him—in a reading made to him, narrated to us; and he recited it to me in the year 477 AH. He said: Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Umar al-Razi narrated to us; he said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim narrated to us; he said: Yunus ibn Abd al-A‘la narrated to us; he said: Ibn Wahb narrated to us; he said: al-Layth ibn Sa‘d informed us.
Through another chain: Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Wasiti narrated to us; he said: Ali ibn Abd Allah ibn Mubashshir narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us; he said: al-Layth ibn Sa‘d informed us, from Sa‘id ibn Abi Sa‘id al-Maqburi, from Sharik ibn Abd Allah ibn Abi Namir, from Anas, who said:
We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when a man came riding his camel. He made it kneel, then hobbled it, and said, “Which of you is Muhammad?”
We replied, “That fair-complexioned man reclining.” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was reclining among his Companions.
The man said, “O Muhammad, O son of Abd al-Muttalib, I have come to question you, and my questioning will be pressing; so do not take offence with me.”
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, “Ask whatever you wish.”
