15]. Allah, Most High, says: “So that people would have no argument against Allah after the messengers.” [al-Nisa’: 165]
And He, Most High, says: “You were not on the western side when We decreed the command to Moses, nor were you among the witnesses. But We brought forth generations, and their lives grew long. Nor did you dwell among the people of Midian, reciting Our verses to them; rather, We sent you as a messenger. Nor were you at the side of the Mount when We called out. But it was a mercy from your Lord, so that you may warn a people to whom no warner had come before you, that perhaps they may take heed. Were it not that a calamity might befall them because of what their own hands have sent forth, and they would then say, ‘Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger, so that we might follow Your verses and be among the believers?’” [al-Qasas: 45]
“And they say, ‘Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?’ Has there not come to them clear proof of what was in the earlier scriptures? Had We destroyed them with a punishment before this, they would surely have said, ‘Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger, so that we might follow Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?’” [Ta Ha: 133]
This establishes that knowledge of Allah and of the Messengers is acquired through transmitted revelation, as Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has informed us. This is the position of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah. Among the evidence from the Sunnah is the hadith of Dimam ibn Tha‘labah.
