324—Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Harasta al-Najirami informed us, reading to him. He said: I heard Abu al-Qasim Abd al-Jabbar ibn Shiraz ibn Yazid al-Abdi, a companion of Sahl ibn Abd Allah, say: I heard Sahl ibn Abd Allah say—when he was asked, “When does a man know that he is upon the Sunnah and the Congregation?”—he replied:
“When he finds ten qualities in himself: he does not forsake the Congregation; he does not revile the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ; he does not take up the sword against this Ummah; he does not deny divine decree; he harbors no doubt concerning faith; he does not engage in disputation about the religion; he does not refrain from offering the funeral prayer over anyone from among the people of the qiblah who dies upon account of a sin; he does not abandon wiping over the leather socks; and he does not forsake congregational prayer behind every ruler, whether unjust or just.”
