322—Abu Muhammad said: “I heard my father and Abu Zur‘ah enjoining the boycott of the people of deviation and innovation, and denouncing this in the strongest terms. They condemned the writing of books based on personal opinion rather than transmitted reports, and forbade sitting with the proponents of speculative theology or examining the books of the theologians. They would say: ‘No adherent of speculative theology will ever prosper.’” Abu Muhammad said: “This is also my position.” ⦗202⦘ Abu Ali ibn Hubaysh al-Muqri’ said: “This is also my position.” Our shaykh Ibn al-Muzaffar said: “This is also my position.” Our shaykh—that is, the author—said: “This is also my position.” Al-Turaythithi said: “This is also my position.” Our shaykh al-Salafi said: “This is also our position.”
