304—Ali informed us; Abd al-Rahman informed us; he said: al-Rabi‘ related to us; he said: “I saw al-Shafi‘i descending the stairs while some people in the mosque were discussing speculative theology. He raised his voice and said, ‘Either remain among us speaking what is good, or leave us.’”
٣٠٤ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيٌّ , أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ , قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ الشَّافِعِيَّ وَهُوَ نَازِلٌ مِنَ الدَّرَجَةِ وَقَوْمٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ يَتَكَلَّمُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ , فَصَاحَ وَقَالَ: «إِمَّا أَنْ تُجَاوِرُونَا بِخَيْرٍ , وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَقُومُوا عَنَّا»
