292—Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ja‘far informed us: Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Ghaylan al-Khazzaz narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Yazid, the brother of Karkhawayh, narrated to us; Sa‘id ibn ‘Amir informed us; Hazm informed us, from Ghalib al-Qattan, who said:
“I saw Malik ibn Dinar in a dream, sitting in his usual place and pointing with his finger as he said, ‘There are two kinds of people with whom you should not sit, for their company corrupts the heart of every Muslim: an adherent of an innovation who has gone to excess in it, and a man devoted to worldly life and steeped in its luxury.’
“Then he said, ‘Hakim narrated this hadith to me. He was a man among those who used to sit with him ⦗163⦘, and was called Hakim.’ He said, ‘He was with us in the circle.’ He said, ‘I asked, “O Hakim, did you narrate this hadith to Malik?” He replied, “Yes.” I asked, “From whom?” He replied, “From the cudgels among the Muslims.”’”
