289—‘Isa ibn ‘Ali informed us; he said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi informed us; he said: Ziyad ibn Ayyub narrated to us; he said: Sa‘id ibn ‘Amir narrated to us, from Sallam ibn Abi Muti‘, who said:

“Ayyub saw a man from among the people of religious innovations and said, ‘I recognize humiliation in his face.’ He then recited:

‘Indeed, those who took the calf for worship will be afflicted by wrath from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world. Thus do We recompense those who fabricate lies.’ [al-A‘raf 7:152]

He then said, ‘This applies to every fabricator of lies.’”
