2822 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ahmad reported to us; he said: al-Husayn ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; he said: al-Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Maʿsadah ibn al-Yasaʿ narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad, from his father, that ʿAli once arrived wearing a turban called “al-Sahab” (“the Cloud”). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “This is ʿAli, Abu al-Hasan,” or, “Here is Abu al-Hasan who has come wearing the turban of al-Sahab”—meaning a turban placed upon ʿAli. Jaʿfar added, “But those people distorted it and claimed, ‘ʿAli is in the cloud.’”
