Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿUmar reported to us. He said: Aḥmad ibn Ḥamdān reported to us. He said: Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us. He said: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us. He said: I heard Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah say to a man, “Where have you just come from?” The man answered, “From the funeral of so-and-so.” Sufyān replied, “I shall not transmit a single hadith to you for an entire year. Seek Allah’s forgiveness and do not do that again: you looked at a man who reviles the Companions of Muhammad, and yet you followed his funeral procession?”
