2812 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Mūsā related to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Miṣrī narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us; he said: It was said to Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Firyābī ⦗1545⦘, “What is your view of Abū Bakr and ʿUmar?”
He replied, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the two of them precedence. A man from Quraysh also informed me that one of the caliphs seized two men from the Rāfiḍah and said to them, ‘By Allah, if you do not tell me what drives you to belittle Abū Bakr and ʿUmar, I will surely kill you both.’ They refused, so he brought one of them forward and struck off his head. He then said to the other, ‘By Allah, if you do not tell me, I will make you join your companion.’ The man asked, ‘Will you grant me safety?’ He answered, ‘Yes.’ The man said, ‘Our original aim was to target the Prophet ﷺ, but we realized that people would never follow us in that. So we turned our attention to these two men, and the people followed us in it.’”
Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf concluded: “I regard the Rāfiḍah and the Jahmiyyah as nothing but zindīqs.”
