2798 – ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Ghiyāth al-Qāḍī related ⦗1538⦘, saying: Yaḥyā ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd al-Ṭanāfisī narrated to us; Sadaqah ibn al-Muthannā, from Riyāḥ ibn al-Ḥārith, said:
After the death of ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him), al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī stood and addressed the people. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
“Indeed, whatever is coming is near, and Allah’s decree will surely come to pass even if people dislike it. By Allah, I would not wish to shoulder, of the affairs of Muḥammad’s community, even the weight of a mustard seed if, on that account, a single cupping-bowl of blood were to be spilled. I know full well what benefits me and what harms me, so return to your mounts.”
