2792 – Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Sahl reported to us; Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ⦗1535⦘ informed us; he said: Bishr ibn Musa narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Azraqi narrated to us; he said: ‘Amr ibn Yahya, from his grandfather, related that ‘Umar summoned Abu Sufyan to offer him condolences for his son Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan. Abu Sufyan asked, “Commander of the Believers, whom have you appointed over his post?” He replied, “I have placed his brother Mu‘awiyah in charge. Both your sons are upright, and it is not permissible for us to remove two men who set matters right.”
