2786 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn ʿAli informed us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad ⦗1532⦘ narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAbd al-Hamid al-Maymuni narrated, saying:

“I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal, ‘Did not the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Every in-law relationship and every blood tie will be cut off except my in-law relationship and my blood tie”?’ He replied, ‘Yes.’

I then asked, ‘Do all of these apply to Muʿawiya (may Allah be pleased with him)?’ He said, ‘Yes.’”
