2781 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAlāʾ narrated to us; he said: Ziyād ibn Ayyūb narrated to us; he said: Abū Sufyān al-Ḥumaydī narrated to us; he said: al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab narrated to us, from Jabalah ibn Suḥaym, who said:

Ibn ʿUmar ⦗1530⦘ said, “After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ I never saw a man who commanded greater prestige than Muʿāwiyah.” A man asked him, “Not even ʿUmar?” He replied, “ʿUmar was better than he, but Muʿāwiyah’s prestige was greater.”
