2754 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman narrated to us; he said: Yahya ibn Saʿid narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Maymun al-Khayyat narrated to us; he said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Maʿmar, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUthman ibn Khuthaym, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, who said:

“Ibn ʿAbbas asked permission to enter upon ʿAʾishah, and she admitted him. He said, ‘Nothing stands between you and meeting your beloved ones except that the soul depart the body. You were among the Prophet’s dearest wives—peace and blessings be upon him—to him, and he loved only what was pure. Your necklace fell on the night at al-Abwāʾ, and Allah placed great good in that: the verse concerning dry ablution (tayammum) was revealed. Verses from the signs of Allah were also sent down about you, and there is no mosque among the Muslims’ mosques in which your vindication is not recited by night and by day.’

She replied, ‘Spare me your commendations, O Ibn ʿAbbas; I would have preferred to be a thing forgotten, out of sight.’
