2722 – Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Yaʿqub reported to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Harun reported to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us; he said: Yaʿlā ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us; he said: Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, from al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, who said:

I said, “O Messenger of Allah, when the Quraysh meet one another they greet each other with cheerful faces, but when they meet us they appear with faces we do not recognize.” The Prophet became intensely angry, then said, “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, faith will not enter a man’s heart until he loves you for Allah’s sake ⦗1500⦘ and for His Messenger.”
