2717 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman related to us; he said: Ahmad ibn ʿIsa al-Miskin related to us; he said: Ishaq ibn Ruziq narrated to us; he said: al-Jiddi narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated, from Abu Ishaq al-Hamdani, who said: I heard Silah ibn Zufar relate from Hudhayfah, who said ⦗1495⦘:

“The people of Najran came to the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and said, ‘Send us a trustworthy man.’ He replied, ‘I will indeed send you a trustworthy man—truly trustworthy.’ He repeated this three times, and the people craned their necks in anticipation. Then he sent Abu ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrah.”

Al-Bukhari and Muslim also recorded this narration.
