2705 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Yaʿqūb reported to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim told us; he said: ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Awdi narrated to us; he said: Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, who said:
“The first person to draw his sword for the sake of Allah was al-Zubayr. It was only a rumor that Satan had spread—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been seized in the upper part of Mecca. Al-Zubayr therefore unsheathed his sword and forced his way through the people until he reached the Prophet ﷺ, who was still in the upper quarter of the city. The Prophet asked, ‘What is the matter with you, O Zubayr?’ He replied, ‘I was told that you had been taken prisoner.’ So the Prophet invoked blessings upon him and prayed for him and for his sword.”
