2690 – Aḥmad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us; he said: Muṣʿab narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Ḥusayn ibn Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—his mother was Fāṭimah bint al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib—reported that al-Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq used to say: “I heard al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan say to a man who was going to extremes about us, ‘Woe to you! Love us for Allah’s sake. If we obey Allah, then love us; but if we disobey Allah, ⦗1484⦘ detest us. Had kinship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ been able to benefit anyone without obedience, it would have benefited his own father and mother. Speak the truth about us, for that is more effective in achieving what you seek, and we are content with that from you.’”
