ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ahmad reported to us; he said: Ibn Makhlad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-Haddad narrated to us; he said: Khalid ibn Zayd al-Mazrafi narrated to us; he said: Abu Shaybah al-Nuʿman ibn Muhammad, from Ismaʿil ibn Khalaf, from al-Shaʿbi, said:

“I entered upon Abu Jaʿfar and asked, ‘Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leave a testament (appointing someone after him)?’ He replied, ‘That claim has reached us only from your side.’”
