258—Ahmad ibn Ubayd informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us. He said: Harun ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us. He said: Damrah narrated to us, ⦗155⦘ from Ibn Shawdhab, who said:

“I said to Kathir ibn Ziyad, Abu Sahl: ‘How fine so-and-so’s outward bearing is!’ He replied: ‘That which you see is seldom found except in one driven by personal desire.’”
