- ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Khalaf al-Taymī narrated to us; he said: I heard Qabīṣah say: ʿAbbād al-Sammāk—who used to keep company with Sufyān al-Thawrī—told me, “The caliphs are Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, and ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz; anyone apart from them only seized power by force.”
٢٦٦٤ - أنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ التَّيْمِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَبِيصَةَ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبَّادٌ السَّمَّاكُ وَكَانَ يُجَالِسُ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيَّ: الْخُلَفَاءُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ، وَعُثْمَانُ، وَعَلِيٌّ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَمَنْ سِوَاهُمْ مُنْتَزُونَ
