2651 – Ahmad ibn Muhammad, the jurist, informed us; Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn ⦗1465⦘ Hamdan narrated to us; he said: ʿUthman ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Nasr ibn ʿAli narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Sawwar narrated to us; he said: Saʿid ibn Abi ʿArubah, from ʿAmir al-Ahwal, from al-Hasan, who said:

“I was with ʿAli in Medina when he heard a noise. He asked, ‘What is that?’ They answered, ‘ʿUthman has been killed.’ He said, ‘O Allah, I call You to witness that I neither approved of it nor took part in it,’ and he repeated this two—or perhaps three—times.”
