2631 – ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us, saying: Nuʿaym ibn Haysam narrated to us, saying: Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān, from Ḥarb ibn Shaddād, from Qatādah, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib — Jaʿfar said, “I think it is from Saʿd” — reported:
When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, set out for the expedition of Tabuk he left ʿAlī in Madinah. People began to say, “He found him burdensome and disliked his company.” That reached ʿAlī and pained him, so he followed the Prophet until he caught up with him and said, “O Messenger of Allah, you left me behind with the women and children, and people are saying, ‘He dismissed him and disliked his company.’” He replied, “Are you not pleased to hold, in relation to me, the position of Aaron to Moses?” Al-Baghawī commented: “This is how Nuʿaym related the report from Jaʿfar, but with this element of doubt.”
2632 – Bishr ibn Hilāl al-Ṣawwāf narrated to us, saying: Jaʿfar, from Ḥarb ibn Shaddād, from Qatādah, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Saʿd, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, transmitted a report to the same effect.
2633 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, saying: Bishr ibn Hilāl narrated to us, and he reported the same narration.
