2603 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Walīd al-Faḥḥām narrated to us; he said: Abū Aḥmad narrated to us; he said: Hishām ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Usayd, who said: I heard Ibn ʿUmar say:
“We used to say, during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, that the best of people after the Messenger of Allah are Abū Bakr and ʿUmar. Yet ʿAlī was granted three distinctions—had I possessed even one of them, it would have been dearer to me than red camels: his marriage to Fāṭimah, who then bore him children; his being given the banner on the Day of Khaybar; and the fact that all the doors opening into the mosque were closed except ʿAlī’s door.”
