2585 – ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar related to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah narrated to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah, from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah, from Abū Mūsā, who said: “Had the killing of ʿUthmān been a source of guidance, the ummah would have milked it for nourishing milk; but it was outright misguidance, and thus the ummah has milked from it nothing but blood.”
