250—Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Qasim informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Uthman narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Mahan narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Rahman—that is, Ibn Mahdi—narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Jaʿfar ibn Burqan, that Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz said to a man who asked him about erroneous sectarian doctrines: “Hold fast to the religion of the child in the Quran school and of the Bedouin, and turn away from everything besides them.”
٢٥٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَاهَانَ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ , يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ , عَنْ سُفْيَانَ , عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْأَهْوَاءِ , فَقَالَ: «عَلَيْكَ بِدِينِ الصَّبِيِّ الَّذِي فِي الْكُتَّابِ وَالْأَعْرَابِيِّ , وَالْهُ عَمَّا سِوَاهُمَا»
