2578 – ʿAlī ibn ʿUmar informed us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Khalaf ibn Tamīm narrated to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muhājir, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, from Kathīr ibn al-Ṣalt, reported:
ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān said, “O Kathīr ibn al-Ṣalt, I see nothing but that the people are going to kill me.” I replied, “Rather, Allah will support you against them, O Commander of the Believers.” He repeated, “O Kathīr ibn al-Ṣalt, I see nothing but that the people are going to kill me.” I asked, “Has something been said to you, or have you been informed of this?” He answered, “No. But I was awake the whole of last night, and just before dawn I dozed off for a moment. I then saw the Prophet ﷺ, with Abu Bakr and ʿUmar beside him. The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Come to us, and do not keep us waiting; we are expecting you.’” He was killed later that same day.
