2577 – Muḥammad b. ʿUthmān informed us; he said: al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad b. Abī ʿAwn narrated to us; he said: Isḥāq b. Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: Abū Jaʿfar—through Ayyūb, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar—reported that ʿUthmān began the morning and addressed the people, saying: “Last night I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream, and he said, ‘O ʿUthmān, break your fast with us.’” He started the day fasting, and he was killed later that same day.
