249—Al-Hasan informed us. He said: Ismaʿil ibn Muhammad informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Mansur narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim ibn Abi Yahya said to me, “I see that the Muʿtazilites are numerous among you.”
I said, “Yes, and they claim that you are one of them.”
He said, “Will you not enter this shop with me so that I may speak with you?”
I said, “No.”
He said, “Why?”
I said, “Because the heart is weak, and religion does not belong to whoever prevails.”
٢٤٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ , قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ , قَالَ: قَالَ لِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي يَحْيَى: «إِنِّي أَرَى الْمُعْتَزِلَةَ عِنْدَكُمْ كَثِيرًا» . قُلْتُ: «نَعَمْ , وَهُمْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّكَ مِنْهُمْ» . قَالَ: «أَفَلَا تَدْخُلُ مَعِي هَذَا الْحَانُوتَ حَتَّى أُكَلِّمَكَ؟» قُلْتُ: «لَا» . قَالَ: «لِمَ؟» قُلْتُ: «لِأَنَّ الْقَلْبَ ضَعِيفٌ , وَإِنَّ الدِّينَ لَيْسَ لِمَنْ غَلَبَ»
