2570 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān reported: Yahyā ibn Muḥammad told us; Abu Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs and Abū Usāmah conveyed from Hishām ibn Ḥassān, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned an impending fitnah (trial) and portrayed it as very near. While he was speaking, a man passed by with his head covered, and the Prophet said, “On that day, this man will be upon right guidance.” I caught him by the upper arm—either twisting him or turning him around—then faced the Prophet ﷺ and asked, “This one, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “This one.” It turned out to be ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān.
