2560 – Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yaʿqūb told us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Hārūn told us; he said: Abū Kurayb narrated to us; he said: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Muslim, the keeper of the enclosure, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Anas, who said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in one of the gardens of Madinah. Anas continued: then ⦗1426⦘ ʿUthmān arrived, so the Prophet opened the gate for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise—after a severe trial that would befall him. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him, the people said, ‘Messenger of Allah, why did you not do for us what you have just done for ʿUthmān?’ He replied, ‘I feel shy before a man before whom the angels feel shy.’”
