2529 – ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī also informed us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us; he said: Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr al-Ḍabbī reported to us; (he said:) Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abī Ghunayyah related to us—

2530 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUmar likewise informed us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Saʿīd reported to us; he said: Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Ibn Abī Ghunayyah, from al-Ṣalt ibn Bahrām, from Sinān, who said:

When Abū Bakr’s illness became grave, he looked out to the people through a small window and said, “O people, I have appointed someone in charge—are you pleased with that?”

The people replied, “We are pleased with the successor of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”

At that, ʿAlī stood up and declared, “We will not be satisfied unless it is ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb.”
