2497 – Mahdī ibn Muḥammad al-Naysābūrī told us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Dallūwayh related to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: my father narrated to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān, on the authority of Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, on the authority of Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the prayer, then turned to the people and said, “While a man was driving a cow, he tried to mount it. The cow turned toward him and said, ‘We were not created for this; we were created for ploughing.’”

Those around him exclaimed, “Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah!” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “I believe this, and so do Abū Bakr and ʿUmar,” even though Abū Bakr and ʿUmar were not present.

He went on to say, “While a man was among his sheep, a wolf came and carried off a ewe. The man pursued it, and when he caught up with it the wolf dropped the ewe, then turned to him and said, ‘Who will guard her on the Day of the Wild Beasts, the day when she will have no shepherd but me?’”

Those around him exclaimed, “Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah!” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I believe this, and so do Abū Bakr and ʿUmar,” even though Abū Bakr ⦗1395⦘ and ʿUmar were absent.
