2496 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Fārisi told us, saying: Ahmad ibn Saʿīd al-Thaqafī related to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī narrated to us; he said: Abū al-Yamān narrated to us; he said: Shuʿayb, on the authority of al-Zuhrī, informed us; Abū Salamah told me that Abū Hurayrah said: “I heard the Prophet ﷺ say:
‘While a shepherd was grazing his flock, a wolf sprang upon it and snatched a ewe ⦗1394⦘. The shepherd pursued the wolf, whereupon the wolf turned toward him and said, “Who will guard her on the Day of the Wild Beasts? She will have no shepherd but me.”
And while a man was driving a cow that he had laden with a burden, the cow turned to him and spoke, saying, “I was not created for this; I was created for ploughing.”
The people exclaimed, “Glory be to Allah!” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “I believe this, and so do Abū Bakr and ʿUmar.”’
