2481 – Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yaʿqūb reported to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Hārūn al-Ruwayyānī reported to us; he said: ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī reported to us; he said: Abū ʿĀṣim reported to us; he said: ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad reported to us; he said: Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me, from … ḥ.
2482 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān likewise reported to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī reported to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn ʿĪsā al-Miṣrī reported to us; he said: Wahb reported to us. ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṣayrafī also narrated to us; both of them from Abū ʿĀṣim, all on the authority of ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad, who said: Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar narrated to me, from his father, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “In a dream vision I saw myself at a well and I could see all the people. Abū Bakr came and drew one or two bucketfuls, and there was some weakness in his drawing—but Allah will forgive him. Then ʿUmar came, and in his hand the bucket turned into a vast waterskin. I have never seen any man of exceptional strength work as he worked, until the people ⦗1388⦘ had fully watered their animals and taken up their places at the watering sites.”
This wording is that of Abū ʿĀṣim’s report; in Jaʿfar’s version the phrase reads: “at the trough” (biʿaṭan, singular).
