2477 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman and ʿIsa ibn ʿAli reported to us; they said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi reported to us; he said: Kamil ibn Talhah narrated to us; he said: al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from ʿAqil ibn Khalid, from Ibn Shihab, from Ibn al-Musayyab, that Abu Hurayrah said:
While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, “While I was asleep I found myself in Paradise. There I saw a woman performing ablution beside a palace. I asked, ‘Whose palace is this?’ They replied, ‘It belongs to ʿUmar.’ Remembering his protective jealousy (ghayra), I turned away.”
Abu Hurayrah continued: ʿUmar then wept and said, “May my father and mother be ransomed for you! Would I ever feel jealousy toward you?” Al-Bukhari and Muslim both recorded this ḥadith.
