2467 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muḥammad reported: “Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Kūfī narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Azdī narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar ibn Ghayyāth narrated to us; he said: I heard Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad say, ‘Whatever I hope for from ʿAlī’s intercession, I hope for the same from Abū Bakr’s—indeed, he fathered me twice.’
I said: The meaning of this statement is that Abū Bakr is his grandfather twice over. Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad’s mother was Umm Farwah bint al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, the wife of his father Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn. Umm Farwah’s mother, in turn, was Asmāʾ bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq. Thus Abū Bakr is his ancestor from both sides.
