2441 – ʿUbayd Allah b. Muhammad b. Ahmad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad b. ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Muhammad b. Abi al-ʿAwam narrated to us; he said: I heard ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Qurashi say: I heard Sufyan al-Thawri say, “Whoever puts anyone ahead of Abu Bakr and ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with them—has thereby disparaged twelve thousand Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away well-pleased with them.”
