2428 – ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad informed us; he said: al-Ḥusayn ibn Yaḥyā told us; he said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Ishkāb reported to us; he said: Shababa narrated to us; he said: Abū al-ʿAṭūf al-Jazarī, on the authority of al-Zuhrī, said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ḥassān, “Have you composed anything about Abū Bakr?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet said, “Recite it for me while I listen.” So he recited:

The second of the two within the cave—
The foe had ringed them as they climbed the height;
Beloved of the Messenger of God he stood—
All mankind knew: none matched him in his right.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled until his molars showed and said, “You have spoken the truth, Ḥassān.”
