2424 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUmar likewise told us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Yaʿqūb told us; he said: my grandfather Yaʿqūb narrated to us; he said: ʿAffān ibn Muslim narrated to us, Habbān ibn Hilāl also related to us, Muḥammad ibn Sinān al-ʿAwqī related to us, and Abū Salamah al-Tabūdhakī related to us; he said: ⦗1354⦘ Hammām narrated to us; they said: Thābit narrated to us; he said: Anas—Habbān completed the chain—who reported that Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq told him:

“I looked at the feet of the idolaters just above our heads while we were in the cave, and I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, if any one of them were simply to look down at his feet, he would see us beneath them.’ He replied, ‘O Abū Bakr, what do you think of two when Allah is the third of them?’”
